Regional Planning Committee for Teacher Awards day inaugurated
A 19-member Western Regional Planning Committee for the 2011 National Best Teacher Awards Day, was on Wednesday inaugurated at Sekondi.
The ceremony would take place at the Jubilee Grounds on October 5 at Takoradi.
Madam Emelia Arthur, Deputy Western Regional Minister, performed the inauguration on behalf of the Regional Minister, Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo.
In an address read for him, Mr. Aidoo said the tradition has been for the hosting region to set up a planning committee to handle the necessary preparation for the event.
He called on the committee to deliberate on issues concerning the motivation of teachers in addition to planning for the ceremony.
He also urged the committee to work extra hard to showcase the best from the Region and to improve upon the splendid performance of the Eastern Region when it hosted last year’s event.
Mr Aidoo appealed to all well-meaning citizens of the Region to see the event as an honour for the area and come on board t assist in whatever manner they can, to make the planning and hosting of the event a success.
Mrs Rebecca Efiba Dadzie, Regional Director of Education, said for the past eleven years, the celebration of the National Best Teacher Awards Day has coincided with the World Teachers’ Day, which falls on October 5.
She said the Region hosted the National Best Teachers Awards Day in 2002 and 2003 and only two national best teachers have emerged from the Region.
Mrs Dadzie suggested that the slogan “Host and Win” should be adopted so that the Region would win more awards at this year’s event.
The Deputy Regional Minister is the chairperson of the Regional Planning Committee.
