Yendi Assembly supports 19 disability persons with GH¢5,340
The Yendi Municipal Assembly has extended support to 19 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the Municipality with an amount of GH¢5,340 from the Assembly’s share of the Common Fund.
The beneficiaries received amounts ranging from GH¢150 to GH¢130, depending on their peculiar individual needs.
The Yendi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Issah Zakaria announced this at a ceremony during which the money was paid to the beneficiaries.
Mr Zakaria indicated that the NDC Government focused on solving the problems of the people including those with disabilities.
He said this was why two per cent of the District Assemblies Common Fund was set aside for PWDs.
He said committees had been formed in all the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to over-see the disbursement of the money to those it was intended for.
Mr. Zakaria announced that the Yendi Assembly would soon appoint a Desk Officer to cater for the needs of PWDs, and advised the beneficiaries to use the money wisely to improve their living conditions.
The Municipal Coordinating Director, Alhji Shehu Kadri, said the fund will continue to come in every quarter, and that more PWDs would benefit from the fund depending on their performance.
The Municipal Social Welfare Officer Mr Mohammed Alhassan Abubakari, expressed his appreciation to the government for assisting the PWDs to live comfortable lives.
Mr Abubakari advised the beneficiaries to advise their colleagues who were begging on the streets to join their Society of the Disabled so that they could all benefit from the fund and get some work doing.
The Municipal Chairman of the Red Cross Society of Disabled, Mr Dawuni Abdul-Yakubu said there were more than 175 persons with disabilities in the Yendi Municipality.
Mr Dawuni indicated that beneficiaries of the Assembly’s money included tailors, leather workers, smock weavers, carpenters, dress makers and shoe-makers among others.
He appealed to the Assembly to complete the Training Resources Centre to enable the Society to train more PWDs in various vocations.
He indicated that the Resource Centre will have rooms for ICT training, Weaving, Carpentry, and Leather works among others.
Mr Dawuni called on PWDs who had not yet registered with the Society to try to do so in order to benefit from the fund.
