Plan Ghana signs agreement with two CSOs to implement project

Plan Ghana International, a child centered non-governmental organization, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with two civil society organisations to implement the “Girl Power Project” in the Sissala West and Wa West Districts of the Upper West Region over a period of five years.

The two organizations are the Sissala Literacy and Development Programme (SILDEP) and the Center for the Alleviation of Poverty, Environment and Child Support (CAPECS).

The “Girl Power Project” which is funded by the Dutch Government is being implemented in 10 countries including Ghana.

The project seeks to promote the rights of the girl child and create opportunities for quality education for girls and young women and access to vocational and technical training, socio-economic and political empowerment and protection of the girl child.

Mr. Samuel Paulos, Plan Ghana Country Director, signed on behalf of Plan Ghana while Mr. Luri signed on behalf of SILDEP.

Mr. Luri said the vision of the project was to ensure that young women and girls develop their potential to the fullest through education, political and economic empowerment.

He said of late, people were becoming conscious about the rights of children but the rights of the girl child were still being abused.

This, he noted, was evident in the low girl enrolment and school dropout rate in the country.

Based on this, the Dutch Government is therefore funding the project through Plan Ghana.

Mr. Luri said Plan Ghana had also identified four partners in four districts; two of which were in the Upper West Region.

SILDEP which is the implementing partner in the Sissala West District has been allocated a budget of €500,000.
