Volta Region launches Unity Games

The Volta Region has launched its Regional Unity Games as they set the pace for the organization of the event.

The event, to serve as a formal preparation for the Region towards the National Unity Games was launched last Monday at the Ho Municipal Assembly under the chairmanship of Isaac Kodobisah, Ho Municipal Chief Executive.

Colonel (Retired) Cyril Necku, Deputy Regional Minister at the launch, tasked the regional branch of the National Sports Authority to work very hard to recapture the lost glory of the Region in the field of sports.

He recalled that the Volta Region was a breeding ground for sporting talents for the various national teams but the feat has been eroded through inaction, support and disinterest in developing sport at the basic level

Gabriel Missodey, Regional Director of Sports appealed to corporate bodies, individual and sports enthusiasts to come on board to sponsor the organization and success of the event.

He expressed appreciation to the Promasidor Ghana Limited, Alphafran Computer Training Centre, Afe Lotto Company and Paul’s Fashion for their support to the success of the Games.

The Volta Regional Unity Games will take place from 10-14 July, 2011 at the Ho Sports Stadium.

The Ho Polytechnic will serve as the Games Village.

Meanwhile, the National Unity Games will be held from 17-27 July at the Legon Sports oval, University of Ghana, Accra.
