Economic pressures must not deny kids of attention – Imam

Sheikh Dr Amin Bonsu, Deputy National Chief Imam of the Ghana Muslim Mission, has urged parents to spend quality time with their children, to prevent them from going wayward.

He said parents should not allow economic and workplace pressures to deny their kids of the needed attention and parental protection.

“This was important to bring down the growing indiscipline and crime, including robbery, drug addiction, cyber fraud and homosexuality, among the youth,” he said.

Sheikh Dr Bonsu was addressing the Eighth National Conference of the Ghana Muslim Mission Women Fellowship, at Beposo, in the Sekyere Central District.

“An ideal Muslim woman” was the theme.

The Deputy National Imam also drew attention to the need to put premium on children’s education, saying, it was the only way parents could assure their young ones of a rewarding and secured future.

He counseled Muslims to provide equal opportunities for both boys and girls to pursue academic careers.

He said the critical role played by education in development and poverty reduction should not be discounted.

Hajia Yahansu Yahya, Proprietress of Spring International School in Kumasi, called for a vigorous push towards girl-child education, saying that, it was in the interest of not only the family but the community and nation at large.

An amount of GH¢25,000.00 was raised by the conference to support the construction of a girls’ dormitory for the Beposoman Muslim Senior High School.
