Physical exercises said to prevent premature death

The Akuapem North District Director of Health Services, Dr Joseph Opare, has advised Ghanaians to undertake frequent physical exercises to prevent premature death.

He said that currently, the major causes of death in the country were complications from non-communicable diseases like hypertension and diabetes, which could be avoided through exercises like walking, jogging, participation in games.

Dr Opare was speaking after a health walk organised for workers and members of Keep Fit clubs, to mark the Republic Day celebration, at Akropong-Akuapem on Friday.

Staff of the District Directorate of Health Services, the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital, the Akuapem North District Assembly and members of the Keep Fit clubs walked from the Hospital to the fore court of the Okuapemhene’s Palace in the town.

The Akuapem North District Chief Executive, Mr George Opare advised the people in the area to keep their environment clean to avoid contracting diseases.

The participants were address by traditional rulers, including the Akuapem Mamponghene, Nana Otu Darteh II, and Amanokromhene, Nana Osiem Kwatia III.
