NCA says Ghana’s Mobile Number Portability will now start July 7

The National Communications Authority (NCA) says Mobile Number Portability (MNP) will kick-start on July 7, 2011 instead of July 1 due to the fact that July 1 to 3 is a public holiday.

The MNP is a process that permits a mobile phone subscriber to keep his or her mobile phone number including the code when he or she decides to change from one mobile service provider to another.

“In view of the fact that July 1 to 3 is a public holiday weekend, and that passage of the Legislative Instrument comprising the MNP Regulations is expected on July 6, the mobile operators, Porting Access, and NCA have jointly decided to set the formal launch for July 7, 2011”, the NCA said in a statement.
