NDC will unite and retain power in 2012 – NAFBEG

Northern Alliance for a Better Ghana (NAFBEG), a pressure group has noted that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) would stay united after the Sunyani congress next month and clench victory in Election 2012.

A statement issued by Sulleman Abubakar Bayeta, General Secretary of the movement and copied to the Ghana News Agency at the weekend said: “Both time and experience have proved that the NDC is very good at organising delegates’ congress, and history tells us that former President Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, the President of 31st December Women’s Movement usually lead the campaign after a flagbearer is chosen by the party.

“In the year 2000, the Ho congress chose President Mills as the party flagbearer and the Rawlingses led the campaign. In 2003, President Mills defeated Dr Kwesi Botchwey at the Legon Congress and the former first couple led the campaign again in the 2004 general election.

“In 2006, the former first couple advised delegates to retain President Mills as flagbearer because of his high level of competence coupled with the fact that he had been marketed enough, and Mills thrashed Dr Ekwow Spio Garbrah and others at the Legon Congress,” the statement said.

It said: “The former first couple led the campaign again in the 2008 general election and the party gave the NPP (New Patriotic Party) a technical knockout in the Tain constituency.”
