SHS, Colleges of Education to have ICT – Education Minister

The government is raising funds to introduce ICT in all the Teacher Training Colleges and the 500 Senior High Schools in the country.

Science and Technology would also be restructured and improved in all the schools.

Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, said this at St John Bosco’s Training College in Navrongo at the weekend.

She appealed to all teachers to make themselves available in the classrooms and ensure that their work made a difference in the lives of their students.

She also visited Our Lady of Lourdes and St John’s Integrated Senior/Technical High School in Navrongo, where she advised students to be of good behaviour.

Mr Alfred A. Ndago, the principal of St John Bosco College of Education, said the college was one of the 17 designated Science, Technology and Mathematics Colleges in the country and it was its core mandate to produce quality teachers in those special areas.

He said the Science and Technology College had limited resources in areas such as motivating quality Staff, laboratory facilities and funding research.

Mr Ndago said the country needed to review its curriculum on science and technology to make it need-driven and more practically oriented to offer solutions to the myriad of challenges of industrialization.

He said efforts be made at the senior high schools and colleges to encourage girls to choose science, mathematics and technology.

He appealed to the government to build additional hostels for the college since their numbers had increased from 350 to 856.

He also appealed for pipe borne water or boreholes to ease the water problem facing the school.
