Ghana Library Board gets ICT equipment for mobile libraries

The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) has given a number of ICT equipment to the Ghana Library Board (GLB) Mobile Vans Unit in order to provide quality service to its users.

In addition with a sum of GH¢110,000 to support the mobile libraries in the country, the equipment include five computers and accessories, uninterrupted power systems (UPS) and air conditioners.

According to a press release issued by the Communications Manager at GIFEC Mr Kwame Bedu-Andor and copied to ghanabusinessnews.com on June 2, 2011, internet connectivity to these libraries, expandable tables and chairs as well as canopies and power generators to be used in deprived areas visited by the mobile library vans are among the package to the GLB.

The Board’s regional static libraries have also been supported with twenty computers each and hooked onto the internet to enhance ICT use and boost the capacity of the Board to provide quality service to users, GIFEC said

“I hope that the project, would offer the beneficiaries access to books and computers free of charge, help them to acquire the requisite skill and competence in ICT for life-long learning and personal development, cultivate reading habits for leisure and self development and gain access to information through the internet” said GIFEC’s Chief Executive Officer Mr. Kofi Attor.

The project forms part of the Library Connectivity Project which started in 2010. The programme ends in 2013.
