Pro-CPP group throws weight behind Mills

President Atta Mills

A group, which says it is aligned to the Convention People’s Party (CPP), on Sunday urged delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to vote for President John Evans Atta Mills as the flag bearer in the July 9 primaries in Sunyani.

It a statement issued in Accra, the Sankofa Convention People’s Movement said the delegates to support Professor Mills for his government to fulfil the government’s development aspirations.

Professor Mills is being challenged by former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings and former education minister, Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah.

It said the regional tours of the President had revealed the massive infrastructure developments undertaken all over the country.

It said President Mills, apart from the requisite skills to be president, was also “a man of prayer and possesses the fear of God”.

“Sankofa Convention Peoples Movement will also encourage and rally the Nkrumaist family to support President Mills in 2012,” it said.

The Movement also urged Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom and his supporters to throw their weight behind Samia Nkrumah, who has expressed her desire to contest for chairperson of the party.

“If Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom insists on being flag bearer for the CPP in 2012, we can promise and assure him he will receive far less than the 1.3 per cent he got in 2008. As far as the Sankofa Convention People’s Movement is concerned, the CPP has a flag bearer for 2012. All the Nkrumaist family must rally behind our president (Mills),” it said.
