Ghana records historic cocoa production of 903,646 metric tons

Ghana has recorded the highest ever cocoa production in the history of the country, the Cocoa Marketing Board (COCOBOD) has said.

In a press statement issued Monday May 30, 2011 and copied to ghanabusinessnews.com, the Board said Ghana’s cocoa production at the end of the main crop season provisionally stands at 903,646 metric tons. It added it is “the highest since the country registered its name on the international market as a producer of cocoa.

The Board also announced the close of the 2010/11 main crop season and the beginning og the light crop season in the next few days.

Ghana is the world’s second largest producer of cocoa after Ivory Coast.

According to the Bank of Ghana, export receipts of cocoa beans and products for the first quarter of 2011 amounted to $859.4 million compared with $682.5 million for 2010.
