Women not property of men – Preacher

The Reverend Mrs Helen Agbetsoamedo, immediate past National Coordinator of Women of Honour of the Jubilee International Churches and Ministries has urged women to “liberate” themselves from perceptions that they are “property of men”.

That way, she said, they could make meaningful contributions as “quality partners” to their marriages and society at large.

Rev. Mrs Agbetsoamedo gave the advice at the opening ceremony of a three-day Volta Regional Women of Honour Convention at Hohoe, at the weekend, on the theme, “Woman, Thou Art Loosed”.

She said: “You do not have to be bound by negative perceptions. You need to know that we are not property of men but quality partners destined to make good what is not good.”

Rev. Mrs Agbetsoamedo, therefore, appealed to men to desist from treating women like their “material goods”.

She advised women to focus on bringing development to their families and the nation instead of worrying about the negative perceptions and stigma society has placed on them.

“We have to change our thinking pattern from negative to positive to assume our rightful positions in the home and society,” Rev. Mrs Agbetsoamedo said.

She encouraged women to embrace their responsibilities and tackle their challenges to transform their homes and the society into worthy places.

They should also help to tackle corruption and indiscipline in society.

She said the nation needed honest, transparent and hardworking leaders and urged Christian women to offer that kind of leadership to the nation.
