Ghana Statistical Service releases first ever National Accounts Statistics

History was made when the Ghana Statistical Service released its first ever National Accounts Statistics (NAS) Wednesday May 11, 2011 in Accra.

According to Dr Philomena Nyarko, Deputy Government Statistician, Ghana is the third country in Africa to release such data after South Africa and Tanzania.

“Ghana is the third country in Africa to do such economic data”, Dr Nyarko told ghanabusinessnews.com on the sidelines of the launching of the NAS.

Dr Nyarko said the data, which has come at the right time, is to further enhance government’s ability to plan in terms of economic policy decisions.

She added, “to ensure that whatever we observe, we make the plans to may be revise the strategy to enhance the economic growth in the country since the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) evaluates the performance of the country’s economy”.

If we know the value of production and services in this country with the help of this data, we can budget for the various obligations that we need to put in place as a country, Dr Nyarko said.
