GIBA calls for collaboration to assist Police to combat crime

The Brong-Ahafo Regional Branch of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), has asked owners and Editorial Managers of radio stations to come out with the agenda to assist Ghana Police Service to combat crime.

A press statement signed by GIBA Co-ordinator, Mr Yaw Asamoah-Mensah on Monday noted that the existence of radio stations was about the development of the society, socially, mentally, economically and spiritually.

It said without peace, unity and stability achievement of these goals would be a mirage.

“Eighty percent of these ingredients can be achieved through effective collaboration of the electronic media, particularly the private ones”, the statement explained.

It indicated that the lack of co-ordination among the 30 private radio stations was allowing criminals to take the Region to ransom through illicit activities such as car snatching.

The statement said on February 11 a KIA Pride saloon car with Registration number GT 4445-11, was snatched from its driver, one Frank Kwao at about 2115 hours at Berekum.

To be able to assist the Police to check such criminal activities in the Region, the statement pleaded with the private radio stations to make contacts of their radio stations available to counterpart stations to ensure speedy report of crime.

It commended the Ghana Police Service for their efforts in combating crime in the Region despite inadequate resources.

GIBA assured the Police of its readiness to assist the Service to reverse the situation.

The statement expressed the hope that collaboration between the Police and members of GIBA would enable residence in the Region to enjoy peace while engaged in their normal activities.

“It is only when this has come to fruition that the public would have trust and confidence in the private radio stations all over the region while boosting… the Police Service for a secured Region.”

    A good move, I give a 100% support.

….but some the Ghana Police has a big problem
    * some police officers themeslves are criminals, taking bribes, slow to act, lazy, indispline…

it will be difficult to do this if the police officers themselves are part of the problem.
