Churches advised to add sports to evangelism

The Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Colonel Cyril Necku (Rtd) on Monday advised Churches and their leaders to encourage their members to undertake sporting events in addition to evangelism.

Col. Necku said the combination of the two events would enable them reach out to many especially the youth with the gospel and as well help promote sports amongst the people.

The Deputy Regional Minister gave the advice when he opened the second edition of the ‘Youth For Christ’ (YFC) Easter Inter-Church Games in Ho.

Col. Necku described Jesus Christ as a great sportsman and urged Churches to take sports seriously the same way they take to the scriptures.

“Jesus walked all His life and mostly rode donkeys and boats while exhibiting patience and tolerance, which are marks of great sportsmanship”, Col. Necku noted.

He enumerated some benefits of sports and urging young people to take to sports to stay healthy.

Mr Seth Dzokoto, Volta Regional Board Chairman of YFC said the organization has identified sports and other social involvements as ways to reach many with the word of God and called for support from all members.

He appealed to the Churches to support the YFC to train the youth for the development of the local Churches.

Reverend Jerry Hanson Wedanu, Volta Regional Coordinator of YFC said the event was gaining popularity and assured that many Churches would be inviolved next year under a two-day event.
