Winneba Aboakyire committee launches programme for the festival

The Winneba Aboakyire Planning Committee on Tuesday launched the programme for the celebration of this year’s Aboakyire for the chiefs and people of the Effutu Traditional Area.

Launching the festival Nana Kofi Takyi IV, Nifahene of Effutu Traditional Area and Chairman of the committee said the festival would start on April 28 and end on May 8.

He said there will be traditional and customary performance on Thursday, Muslims prayers on Friday, and on April 30, there would be a clean-up exercise throughout the Municipality.

The chairman said there will be Christian prayers on Sunday May 1 followed by another clean-up on Monday, and then on Tuesday May 3, there would be a Regatta and tug-of-war by the Asafo Groups at the beach.

Nana Takyi said on Saturday May 7 the two Asafo groups will go to the bush to catch a live deer and the first animal to be brought to the durbar ground would be used to perform the traditional custom for the prosperity of the municipality in the coming year.

He expressed regret that the festival was often marred by misunderstandings and rioting and called for a peaceful celebration of this year’s festival, adding that it is only when there is peace that investors would come to the area.

The Effutu Municipal Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police Martin Asamoah advised the youth to refrain from indulging in acts that could mar the beauty of the festival.

The launching was attended by representatives of the two Asafo groups, Christian and the Muslim communities.
