Ex-GES Accountant in court for duping two teachers

A former accountant of the Ghana Education Service (GES), is standing trial in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Circuit Court for allegedly duping two teachers of GH¢2,100.00 under the pretext of using his influence to get their children employed as pupil teachers by the Service.

Frank Ntiamoah, 50, denied the offence and was granted bail in the sum of GH¢8,000.00.

He was ordered to re-appear on Thursday, April 21.

Police Chief Inspector Isaac Mensah Apenteng told the Court presided over by Mr Justice William Boampong that the complainants, Rose Oppong and Agnes Dankwah, are both teachers.

The accused on the other hand is a former accountant of the GES at the Akomadan District Education Office.

In September last year, Ntiamoah visited a friend at North Suntreso in Kumasi, where he met Rose and introduced himself as a senior accountant of the GES with additional responsibility for recruiting Senior High School (SHS) leavers as pupil teachers.

Rose expressed interest in getting four of her children engaged as pupil teachers and he demanded an amount of GH¢450.00, passport pictures and application letters.

This demand was fulfilled by the complainant.

Chief Inspector Apenteng said Ntiamoah used the same trick to swindle Agnes of GH¢1,700.00.

He thereafter went into hiding until April 11, when he was spotted at Pankrono and was arrested.
