GH¢80m budget for Ghana’s 2012 elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) has submitted to government, a budget for GH¢80 million to fund the 2012 general elections, according to the Daily Graphic.

A Deputy Chairman at the EC, Mr David Kanga, said the budget will support the biometric registration during the electioneering period in 2012.

The publication reports that the EC together with the help of all the political parties will continue to remind government to raise the required funds to support the elections.

“The conduct of the elections is by the Commission but the success depends on all the stakeholders”, the publication said citing Mr Kanga.

It is not clear what this biometric registration means to a public whose confidence in government has been bruised over a disappointing performance with recent National ID registration fiasco. It is also unclear how much was spent and who authorized or oversaw such release. Ghanaian leaders, as I see, have stupendous unfulfilled dreams most of which ride on the backs of dishonest architects of complex suterfuge. What a Paradise this nation would be – absent from dishonesty !
