KATH receives orthopedic books

The Trauma and Orthopedic Directorate library of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, has received a large quantity of orthopedic and trauma books to aid the training of orthopedic specialists at the hospital.

The books, some of which had been digitalized, were a donation from the family of the late Professor Lowell Luther, a renowned orthopedic surgeon from Salt Lake City, United States (US) and the American Academy of Orthopedics.

Added to this was a cheque of $2,400.00 from the widow of the late Professor, Juddy, for the purchase of computers to facilitate the use of the books put on compact discs.

Professor DeVon C. Hale, Assistant Dean, International Medical Education, University of Utah, played key role to get these sent to the hospital.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Professor Ohene Adjei, Chief Executive of KATH, said the facility was grateful for the assistance.

He said the books were important in post graduate training of orthopedic surgeons and promised that they would be put to good use.

Mrs Juddy Luther said the late Professor had always wished that his library would be used for training to promote orthopedic education around the world.

She said it was her hope that the books would bring benefits to Ghanaians.

Dr Raphel Kumah Ametepey, Head of the Trauma and Orthopedic Directorate, praised the collaboration among the University of Utah, American Academy of Orthopedics and the family of the late Professor that had resulted in the gesture.
