Unidentified body washed ashore in Jomoro District

The body of a man in his forties has been deposited at the Half Assini Government Hospital morgue by the police, awaiting identification and collection.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) John Ferguson Dzieneku, the Jomoro District police Commander told the Ghana News Agency at Half Assini on Monday.

He said the police received information last Friday that, a copse had been washed ashore at Emzitianu near, New Town, a coastal town that shared border with the Ivory Coast in the Jomoro District.

DSP Dzieneku added that his outfit dispatched a police investigative team to the town, led by Chief Inspector Paul Anaman and managed to bring the body to the morgue at Half Assini, for autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.

He said the body is about six feet tall with bushy beard and suspected to be an Ivorian, since no Ghanaian had reported of a missing relative to the police.

DSP Dzieneku had ruled out any suspicion of foul play for now, since the body bears no marks. The victim is believed to have drowned in the Ivorian Coast and had been washed ashore in the town by the current of the sea.
