Catholic Priest calls on society to do more to protect women

The Very Reverend Father Isaac Kojo Anokye, Dean of Kumasi Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Cathedral, has said there the need for society to repudiate cultural practices that are inimical to the development of women.

He said women should rather be supported to become more assertive and self-confident.

The Very Rev Anokye was speaking at a “Mothering Sunday” celebration at the Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Cathedral on Sunday.

The celebration takes its roots from ancient practice and is marked at the close of the Lent to recognize women for the significant role they play both in the family and in the society.

The Very Rev Anokye said it was time all forms of violence against women ended and effort made to economically empower them to contribute to the growth of the economy.

He said the Church had introduced a micro-finance scheme to assist women to improve their economic situation.
