Mills launches GH¢90m Electrification Project in Upper West
President John Atta Mills has launched a GH¢90-million Rural Electrification Project for the people of the Upper West Region at Siiriyiri in the Wa West District, to end his two-day official visit to the Region.
He said 400 communities and 300,000 people in the region would benefit from the project, which would be implemented by a Chinese Electrical Corporation for the next four years.
President Mills advised the people to use the electricity to improve on their socio-economic activities and livelihood.
He said his administration believed in equal distribution of resources to all sectors of the national economy and electricity was one of them because it would help promote more cottage industries in rural communities.
President Mills advised the implementers of the project to keep to the time schedule and also be mindful of the 30 per cent local content policy of the government.
At Funsi in the Wa East District, on Tuesday, President Mills commissioned a GH¢1million World Bank funded Small Town Water Supply system for the people and called on them to use the facility judiciously to improve on their health.
He also commissioned GH¢1.2 million Electricity Project at Funsi, which was yet to be connected to the national grid.
He inspected five ongoing projects at the Funsi Senior High School, which cost the government GH¢1.485m and asked the contractors to endeavour to complete the projects on time for the school to begin admission in September this year.
President Mills said he was happy that some progress had been made in the district to make life comfortable for the people.
He said all those who said his administration had done nothing should take time off and go round the communities to see things for themselves.
“Anyone who says my administration has done nothing is not speaking the truth,” he challenged. “They should go round and talk to the people and find out from them their feelings about my government.”
“I will invite some of my critics to go round the countryside to see the massive development projects that are initiated by this government”, he added.
