2nd International Women’s Fair launched
The second edition of the International Women’s Fair (IWF) to create a global platform for women to interact on current issues affecting their development was launched in Accra on Tuesday.
Mr Stephen Yaw Asamoah, Event Manager for IWF, said the theme for the fair was: “The working Woman’s Contribution to Development”.
The fair to be held at the National Theatre in Accra from May 6 to 8, would be in four parts – conference, exhibition, theatre and sales.
He said the three-day exhibition seeks to promote women entrepreneurs and make available to them, products and services which would enhance their image and welfare.
Mr Asamoah noted that the fair would present a strategic networking opportunity for women as there would be over 50 exhibitors, investors and presidents of major corporate organizations in Ghana and the United States of America.
He said as part of the fair, there would be a theatre performance dubbed: “Mummy’s Dimples and Pimples.”
Mr Asamoah noted that the ethos of the IWF was to open a new kind of thinking called “Gender Collaboration”, thus getting both sexes to uniquely identify their strengths but work together in unison and in complimentary roles.
Mr Asamoah said some of the topics to be discussed include, “A woman’s struggle for recognition-breaking through the glass ceiling”, and “Understanding the genders – their roles, positions and influence.”
He said there would be exhibition stands for corporate bodies and entrepreneurs who wanted to showcase, launch and market their products and services.
Mr Asamoah said the IWF foundation would outdoor two of its new humanitarian projects called the IWF Street Project and Empowered Queen Mothers.
He explained that the IWF street project sought to educate, empower and re-model street children while the empowered Queen Mothers would educate, train Queen Mothers in leadership skills and enhance their lives.
Mrs Adiza Ofori-Adu, Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs (MOWAC), said the roles and values of men and women had continued to be in the spotlight as debates, conference and seminars had been held by institutions around the world to find solutions to such mishaps and that the Ministry had thrown its weight behind the fair.
She noted that ever since the inception of the Ministry, it had been able to make gains on gender equality, women’s empowerment and child protection to assist government to fulfil its international reporting and accountability requirement for gender equality and child right.
She stressed that the IWF would set the stage for gender equality and gender collaboration to solve many problems.
