Mr Cletus Avoka, Majority Leader of Parliament and Member of Parliament for the Zebilla Constituency, on Saturday evening sustained injuries in a car accident on his way from Navrongo to Zebilla in the Upper East Region.

Mr Avoka was detained at the Bolgatanga Hospital for the night as the doctor suspected he had suffered some internal injuries as well.

He was discharged on Sunday morning after the doctor had attended to him and seen the X-ray films taken to ascertain the state of some of his internal organs.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at the hospital, Mr Avoka said he was rather tired and would need some days off work to rest and recover.

Mr Avoka’s driver attempted to overtake an articulated truck, but the truck driver suddenly increased its speed forcing the car of the Majority Leader to veer off the road.

His driver and bodyguard sustained minor injuries while the car was severely damaged.

Mr Avoka later promised the hospital administration that government would soon provide the hospital with a generator.

He was part of President John Atta Mills’ entourage on a three-day working visit to the Upper East Region and had attended the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Navrongo Senior High School at Navrongo.

Mr Mahama Ayariga, Deputy Minister of Education was also involved in an accident on Saturday on the Walewale – Tamale road and has been admitted at the Tamale Hospital.
