Six remanded for robbery at Ashongman Estates

An Accra Circuit Court on Friday remanded into police custody six persons who appeared before it on charges of conspiracy and robbery.

Peter Akakpo, a trader, and Gabriel Kojo Agyeman, Ernest Kwabena Acheampong, Daladi Seidu Grumah, Robert Tawiah and Vincent Agbetorglo, all labourers, are said to have robbed a number of houses in and around Ashongman Estates in Accra.

They pleaded not guilty before the court presided over by Mr Eric Kyei Baffour. They will reappear on April 8.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Reindolf Agyeman (ASP) said at about 0500 hours on February 26, the Police received information that some people, armed with locally manufactured pistols and other offensive weapons, had attacked and robbed a number of houses within Agbogba, Abla Adjei, Parakuo and Ashongman Estates.

ASP Agyeman said the information further indicated that the robbers took away residents’ money, laptops, digital cameras and other personal effects.

The prosecutor said based on that information, the Greater Police Command mounted an operation and arrested the accused persons.

During the arrest, Grumah and Agbetorglo led the Police to one of the houses they had attacked and robbed at Parakuo Estate.

At the crime scene, ASP Agyeman said the Police found bullet marks on the walls of the living room and another room.

The two rooms had their sliding door and metal guard door respectively damaged.

According to the prosecutor, the accused persons made away with a laptop, two digital cameras, three mobile phones, audio systems and accessories and cash of GH¢450.

ASP Agyeman said the accused persons in their caution statements admitted the offence and said one Kobby and Abaa were the people who sold their booty.
