Ghana to benefit from $30b Turkey trade investment in Africa

Turkey’s President Abdullah Gül has announced today March 23, 2011 that the country is eyeing a $30 billion trade investment in Africa in the next few years, Turkish news agency Anatolia reports.

Turkey’s trade with African countries was $5 billion in 2003 but increased to $16 billion in 2010. However, the Turkish President said this was not enough. He was quoted by the Turke’s news agency as saying: “But it is not enough. Our goal is to make it 30 billion in a few years”.

Gül made the announcement prior to his visit to Ghana which is the first time ever for a Turkish president.

Ghana is poised to benefit from the Turkish government through Gül’s official visit to the country with hopes of increase in investments.

Already, the Turkish government has shown interest in investing into Ghana’s oil economy.
