Jubilee Partners to consider first oil essay competition winners’ proposal

The Jubilee partners at Ghana’s oil fields will be considering proposals made by winners of the first oil national essay competition to make the oil sector beneficial to all Ghanaians especially to those in the Western Region.

The winners of the competition who made their presentation during an awards ceremony in Accra today March 16, 2011 organised by the Jubilee partners to reward them, said with Ghana on a transition to become an oil country, there is the need for both government and the Jubilee partners to provide large infrastructural development to the nation.

Speaking on behalf of the Jubilee partners, Dr Anthony Aubynn, Head of Corporate Affairs at Tullow Oil Ghana told the press that the partners will start considering some of the new ideas and proposals made by the winners and put them into use.

“The ideas presented were extremely viable and deeply insightful”, he lauded the winners.

Joyce Howusu, a student of Alavanyo SHS and a winner in the senior category said the oil find in Ghana should be used to develop the salt industry, transportation especially on the Volta Lake and to provide essential social amenities to the local people.

The winner of the tertiary category, Mustapha Okyere Darko of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology also said the jubilee partners in collaboration with government should intensify their capacity building for the youth in order to manage the country’s oil by themselves other than foreign people in the near future.

The partners are Anadarko, EO Group, Kosmos Energy, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Sabre Oil and Tullow Oil.
The essay competition which forms part of activities to celebrate Ghana’s oil find, sought to harness ideas from the youth about how best to manage the sector for the good of the nation.
