Birim Central Municipal Assembly fails to elect Presiding Member

The Birim Central Municipal Assembly on Tuesday failed to elect a Presiding Member after three rounds of voting.

Mr Andrews Abrokwah, a businessman, polled 29 votes in the first round with Mr Kwabena Asare Nkansah, a retired Auditor, getting 28 votes and one ballot was rejected.

Mr Nkansah had 30 votes in the second round and Mr Abrokwah polled 29 votes while in the third round, Mr Nkansah polled 29 votes and Mr Abrokwah got 28 votes.

Mr Eric Mensah-Bonsu, Deputy Eastern Regional Electoral Officer, supervised the election.

Alhaji Mohammed Azonko, the Municipal Co-ordinating Director, is to act as the Presiding Member pending a new election.
