Ghana Police urged to work hard to reduce crime wave
The outgoing Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ransford Ninson, on Friday urged Police Personnel to work hard to reduce crime wave.
He indicated that it would be by their efforts, that the country could be peaceful, to attract investors and tourists and create more employment.
He reminded the personnel that they had the responsibility to cooperate with the government to pursue its noble agenda of wooing investors into the country, adding that, it could only be achieved through a peaceful and conducive environment.
DCOP Ninson said this at the annual end of year get together for police personnel, in Koforidua.
He advised the police personnel not to carry out their responsibilities, based on rewards of any sort or to dodge punishment, but to do so as a call to national duty and must be done with commitment.
He highlighted some achievements of the Police in the region the as arrests of a number of notorious armed robbers and the flushing out of nomadic herdsmen in the Afram plains.
DCOP Ninson expressed appreciation to other security agencies for their co-operation and assistance and appealed to them to continue assisting, in order to achieve their goals.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Dr Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi, in a speech read on his behalf, congratulated the police personnel for ensuring a crime-free Christmas and a New Year, as well as, a consistent reduction in the rate of crime.
He observed that the results were achieved through stepped-up highway patrols and also the re-activation of the tent city concept, in the various districts, among others.
He said government was willing to partner with the police to achieve greater success.
Dr Apea-Kubi appealed to all, “not to feel intimidated by the presence of the police, as they are indeed friends and helpers”, adding that, “We should rather collaborate with them to fight crimes and make our country more peaceful and orderly”.
