Kumasi teachers angry with their national leadership

Teachers in Kumasi angered by what they claimed to be unfairness in the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS), on Thursday called for the immediate resignation of their national leaders.

They said they had lost confidence in the leaderships of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) as regard the new pay policy for teachers.

The teachers, wearing red bands, vowed they would not go to the classroom until they saw improvement in their salaries.

They would also not participate in any national assignment including the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior Secondary School Examination (WASSCE).

Visibly irritated Fati Yakubu, described the SSSS, as “a big deception. We are now worse off.”

Meanwhile, the teachers had presented a petition to the Government through the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah.

This was after they had hit the streets, holding placards that conveyed messages of their disappointment.

Dr Agyemang-Mensah appealed for calm and promised that the petition would be forwarded to the appropriate quarters for urgent attention.
