NADMO cautions public against windstorm

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has cautioned the public to be wary of the unusually strong winds currently being experienced in the country.

This had brought in its wake, the destruction of roofs and other structures. It is also fueling the risk of fires.

The Organization, in a statement, signed by Alhaji Bulamatari Mohammed, Ashanti Regional Coordinator, in Kumasi, therefore advised the public to take shelter indoors during the windstorm.

They should move away from trees, walls, billboards, power lines and other objects that could fall and cause a disaster.

It also warned against indiscriminate setting of wildfires to safeguard the destruction properties.

The statement decried the manner in which some private developers are putting up structures at unauthorized places and blamed this for the flooding that occur in most areas in the metropolis anytime it rains.

It cited the Airport Roundabout, Anloga Nkasam, Oforikrom, Kronom, Kyekyire, Amakom Brampsonno, Atonsu S-Line, where it said, such floods had been severe, due to the intransigence of some developers.

NADMO called on civil society organizations to help plant trees to serve as windbreaks and to also repair dilapidated buildings to avoid disasters.
