Ripple effects of Anas’s tape, GPHA interdicts five

Five security officers of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) who were identified on tape allegedly engaging in malfeasance at the Tema Port have been interdicted by the port authorities.

This followed the evaluation of the tape on the alleged corrupt dealings of security officials at the Tema Port captured by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The affected officers are Ms Veronica Sam, Security Supervisor; Mr Edem Kutsienyo, Assistant Security Supervisor; Mr Mohammed Frimpong, Assistant Security Supervisor; Mr James Agbozo, Senior Security Assistant, and Mr Frederick Asase, Security Assistant.

According to a statement issued by the GPHA, the five interdicted security officers were first issued with queries on Wednesday February 2, 2011, to explain their alleged misconduct, as captured on the tape, and, upon a review of their responses by management, they were interdicted according to the conditions of service of the authority.

It said a seven-member committee of inquiry had been set up to investigate the alleged misconduct of the officers, as captured on the tape, to ascertain the respective roles played by each of them and make recommendations that would go a long way to curtail any such malpractice.

It said the committee was also to come up with other appropriate recommendations for management’s study and guidance.

It would be recalled that the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), on Tuesday, interdicted 11 officers of the Customs Division of the authority who were caught on tape allegedly misconducting themselves at the Tema Port.

The interdiction followed the review of responses to queries issued to each of the 11 officers identified on the tape.

Consequently, the GRA set up a committee of inquiry, in accordance with its conditions of service, to carry out full but speedy investigations and bring up findings and recommendations for disciplinary action.

The Commissioner-General of the GRA, Mr George Blankson, said in a statement that a technical team, led by the Deputy Commissioner (Operations) of the Customs Division, had made panies captured on the tape.
