GIFNet calls for reduction of noise pollution in New Juaben

Members of the New Juaben branch of the Governance Issues Forum Network (GIFNet), had identified noise pollution as a destructive phenomenon in the municipality and appealed to the Municipal Assembly and other non-governmental organizations to curb it.

This came to light at a training workshop for the members of the Network in Koforidua on Wednesday.

The GIFNet is a non-political organization which is sponsored by the Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG) and creates the forum for the grassroots to influence policies that affect them through dialogue.

The group also identified the late disbursement of capitation grant as one of the issues that negatively affect teaching and learning in the municipality and called for the inclusion of private basic schools in the programme.

The group called on the Electricity Company of Ghana to respond quickly to complaints about faulty pre-paid electricity meters to save the people from money loss and frustrations.

It called on the New Juaben Municipal assembly to involve market women and other rent and rate payers in their fee fixing negotiations.

This would enable the assembly to get their inputs into the fee fixing so as to win their support in the payments of rents and rates.

Mr Douglas Quartey, Programme Officer of IDEG, who facilitated the training workshop, called on the members to use dialogue and “deliberative methods” in finding solutions to challenges in their communities to help reduce tension and mistrust.
