Green Grass Technology (GGT) to construct sports fields in Equatorial Guinea
Green Grass Technology (GGT), experts in design, construction and maintenance of sports playing fields may be on their way to Equatorial Guinea to take up construction of sports fields in the West Africa country as they prepare to co-host the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
The company, which attracted the attention of the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports of Equatorial Guinea, Ruslam Obiang Nsue and his delegation during a one week tour in Ghana to inspect facilities at the Ghanaman Center of Soccer Excellence (GCSE), in Prampram are likely to land a deal for the pitches in the West African country.
The Guinean delegation was thrilled by the rate of work executed by the company on the training pitches at the Center and have given indications that the Ghanaian company, will be given the task of constructing pitches in the oil rich country for the Nations Cup.
GGT, managers of most major sports fields in Ghana are currently in charge of the construction of the training pitch at the Center in Prampram and the Guineans who were in Ghana late last year were surprised over the speed at which the pitch has taken shape.
Following the success story of the Ghanaian company, the technical officials of the Equatorial Guinea national team are expected in Ghana later in the year to make further assessment of the pitch.
This is to enable them decide whether to camp their national team in Ghana ahead of the competition, as well as grant the Ghanaian company the opportunity to design, construct and maintain their spots fields ahead of the Africa football fiesta.
An official of GGT in an interview with the GNA Sports confirmed that they have been contacted by the officials of the West African country and have submitted the necessary documents, but they are yet to agree on a deal.
According to the official, the Guineans during their inspection tour of Ghana were satisfied with the level of work done and he will not be surprised if the company is contracted to undertake the design, construction and maintenance of pitches in the country ahead of the competition.
The company is confident they will be given the nod to undertake the job in Equatorial Guinea since they have an international track record of working in African countries like Kenya and Uganda.
The Equatorial Guinea Secretary of State was in Ghana to assess facilities at the Center last week, which is being considered by the oil rich country for camping of their national team ahead of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations to be co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
It was also in fulfillment of an agreement of cooperation between the Ministries of Youth and Sports of Ghana and Equatorial Guinea.
Obiang Nsue in an interview with the media expressed satisfaction with the facilities and the quality of pitch at the Center.
He was confident the technical handlers of the team will approve the facilities to pave way for the national team to camp in Ghana and grant the Ghanaian company the opportunity to work on their pitch.
