Sissala West DCE calls for education endowment fund

Mr Robert Baka Wavei, Sissala West District Chief Executive (DCE) has suggested the establishment of a district education endowment fund to assist brilliant but needy students including the vulnerable in the area.

This he noted would roll out the appropriate manpower to mastermind the development of the district.

Mr Wavei made the suggestion during the celebration of the Kukur Baghr Festival of the chiefs and people of the Fielmua Traditional area at Fielmua in the Upper West Region.

He said the proposed fund should be administered independently from the District Assembly to ensure that it was used for the purposes for which it was established.

“This would respond to the annual ritual of the inundation of the District Assembly with requests for sponsorship which are never met due to inadequate funds,” he stated.

The DCE urged citizens from the District to invest in estate development to provide accommodation for workers.

This Mr Wavei noted would enable the district to attract quality manpower to handle the high development needs of the people.

He said currently, some staff posted to the district turned down their postings because of inadequate office and residential accommodation, while those who accepted stayed outside the district and commuted daily to work.

This, he said affected productivity due to constant absenteeism and lateness to work.
