Ghana stocks open 2011 lower 


The newly-introduced GSE Composite Index, the benchmark measure of performance of the Ghana Stock Exchange, fell for the first trading session of the year, down 7.75 points to 992.25 points.

The Change year to date now stands at 0.78 per cent.

There were eight price changes – five positive and three negative.

Aluworks Limited (ALW) gained GH¢0.01 to GH¢0.12, CAL Bank (CAL) was up GH¢0.02 to GH¢0.33 and Enterprise Group Limited (EGL) rose by GH¢0.01 to GH¢0.51.

Other gainers are Ghana Commercial Bank up by GH¢0.05 to GH¢2.70 and Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) rose by GH¢0.01 to GH¢0.29.

Decliners include Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) down GH¢0.01 at GH¢0.14; HFC Bank shed GH¢0.03 to GH¢0.41 and UT Bank closed lower by GH¢0.01 to GH¢0.28.

A total of 63,522 shares worth GH¢213,290.88 exchanged hands.

Market capitalisation is now at GH¢20,012.23 million.
