PNC IMC takes over management of party

A seven-member Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) led by Mr Basili Waisai, a founding member, on Thursday assumed leadership of the party.

The IMC is mandated to organise a National Congress of the PNC in 2011.

Other members are Mallam Ahmed Agadi Jato, Deputy Chairperson, Dr Somtim Tobiga, Spokesman, Dr G. D. Bainge, Mr Kurbu Kondoro, Alhaji Issa Abdulrahaman and Mallam Yakubu Tahiru.

Inaugurating the IMC at the party’s headquarters in Accra, Dr Tobiga explained that members have not taking over from the regional and constituency officers.

Dr Tobiga flanked by other IMC members explained that: “Our mandate originates from the PNC Constitution, which authorises party members to defend the integrity of the party.

“As the saying goes, charity begins at home and the best place to begin this practice is within the party itself since PNC as a political party cannot campaign for the right to rule this country without accepting and practicing the principles of democracy and the rule of law.”

He said prior to the inauguration, leading members of the party had written to the defunct leadership and Council of Elders and other prominent members drawing their attention to the breach of the party’s constitution and the need to form an IMC.

Dr Tobiga accused some members of the defunct leadership of the party of using their positions to protect other political interest instead of championing the cause of the PNC.

“They are members of PNC in name but by their deeds and pronouncement, they belong to other political interest, using PNC just to project for their financial gains,” he alleged.
