Police ready for the District Assembly Elections

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Ransford Ninson, Eastern Regional Police Commander, has called on political parties to stay off the coming district assembly and unit committee elections since it was non-partisan.

He said the various political parties should ensure that their presence at the polling stations did not indicate any political bias in order not to create problems for the security of the electorate.

In an interview with the GNA in Koforidua on preparation of the police towards the elections slated for the 28 December, he stressed that since the assembly elections were non-partisan, the police would not tolerate any partisan interference at the polling stations.

He said the police were adequately prepared to deploy security personnel to all the 2,645 polling stations in the region and to beef up security potential trouble spots.

DCOP Ninson indicated that, apart from the security at the polling stations, there would be standby men to respond to any emergencies and patrol teams in all the districts and electoral areas.

He therefore assured the public of their safety and entreated the electorate to come out in their numbers to cast their vote without any fear or hindrance.
