Ghana Police assures public of security during Christmas season

The Accra Regional Police Command on Friday assured the public of security during the Christmas and New Year, saying day and night patrols would be intensified with all units deploying more patrol teams to cover the entire region.

A statement signed in Accra by Corporal Bright Danso said plain clothes police officers would also be deployed at various lorry stations, market places to make sure that the festivities were held in a peaceful atmosphere.

It said police officers and men from the Public Affairs Unit had also intensified public education exercises to sensitise the general public to be security conscious at all times and guard against the activities of pick-pockets, robbers, vehicle snatchers and criminals in general.

The police would also be on the roads to check speeding, careless driving, wrongful overtaking, overloading and general road infractions to reduce accidents.

The statement advised the general public, especially those going to beaches, not to swim under the influence of alcohol.

The police advised ladies not to accept drinks from unknown persons because it could be a way of luring and raping them while businessmen and women should desist from carrying large sums of money on them.

The statement advised the public to call 0302-773906, 0302-773695, MTN short code 18555 and 191 with any report on criminals.
