Youth in Agriculture cultivates 23-hectares of rice in Jomoro

A total of 23 hectares of rice have been cultivated in three communities in the Jomoro District under the Youth in Agriculture Programme, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Victor Nyanyi Kablan has said.

The DCE was addressing the 26th Farmers’ Day celebration of the Jomoro District at Tikobo. No 2 in the Western Region.

He said the farms were located at Mpataba, New Nzelezo and Ebonloa.

Mr Kablan said cocoa production in the District had increased drastically, adding that the Ghana Cocoa Board purchased 632.024 metric tones of cocoa this season, representing a 75 per cent increase over last year’s production.

Seventeen farmers were awarded for their hard work and were given cutlasses, bowls, radio sets as their awards.

Nana Nda Nwia, Tofohene of Adusuazo was adjudged the overall District Best Farmer and was given a double-decker refrigerator, motor blower and a radio set as his prize.
