Chief calls for renaming of Takoradi International Company

Nana Kwaku Binnah III, Paramount Chief of Shama Traditional Area, has called for the renaming of the Takoradi International Company(TICO) to reflect the location of the company.

“I wonder why the company should continue to be called Takoradi International Company while it is located on the land of the Shama Traditional Area and Takoradi is about 17 kilometers from here,” he said.

Nana Binna appealed to the Board and Management of TICO to consider changing the company’s name to reflect its location.

Nana Binnah made the appeal at a grand durbar to climax the 10th anniversary of TICO at Aboadze on Saturday.

It was on the theme; “Delivering Reliable Electricity – The Role of the Private Operator”.

He commended TICO for supporting the communities in its operational area with developmental projects as well as instituting scholarship to support students in the Shama Traditional Area.

Mr Gabriel Kwodwo Essilfie, Member of Parliament for Shama, promised to lobby government for more projects to be established in the area.

He expressed his appreciation to TICO for providing library, community centre, schools and other social services in its operational area to better the livelihood of the people.
