4000 hectares of cocoa farms sprayed in Techiman

Four thousand, seven hundred and thirty-four hectares of cocoa farms belonging to 1,390 farmers in Techiman Municipality have been sprayed under the mass cocoa spraying exercise.

Mr. Alex Effah Takyi, Techiman Municipal Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Techiman.

He said the spraying exercise, instituted by government to help farmers control cocoa disease and subsequently increase cocoa yield, was conducted by 10 spraying gangs in the municipality.

Mr. Takyi named the spraying gangs as Mangoase, Nsuta, Atia, Sereso, Nkwaeso, Tanoso, Aworowa, Komkrompe, Abirika and Tanoanafo.

The MOFA Director disclosed that a third round spraying would be conducted by the directorate before the close of the year and appealed to cocoa farmers to co-operate with the gangs to ensure the success of the exercise.

Mr. Takyi further disclosed that 3,919 dogs and 228 cats were vaccinated against rabies between January and June this year.

He said the number recorded during the half-year under review was significant and expressed the hope that the municipality would achieve more than 90 per cent coverage of vaccinated animals by December this year.
