Ghana post offices to get ICT connectivity

The over 350 post offices across the country would soon have Information and Communication Technology connectivity Mr. Kofi Attor, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), has said.

He said 50 of such facilities were on pilot basis and cited the Jasikan Post Office as one of the pilot projects.

Mr Attor said this during a public education seminar organized by the Ministry of Communications on “Telecommunication Mast” at Takoradi.

He said post offices would serve as satellite hubs for extending the rural connectivity of the Community Information Centre Project being undertaken by his outfit.

“GIFEC will provide this form of support to 80 post offices over a three-year period from 2010-2012”, he said.

Mr Attor said GIFEC would supply equipment and train people at selected post offices across the country.

He said GIFEC was focused on its mandate and therefore considered the provision of electronic communications services as very important and critical in the nation’s quest for ICT development.
