President Atta Mills

President John Evans Atta Mills has commended the Togolese security authorities for their role in the re-arrest of the notorious fugitive Johnson Kombian.

A statement issued by the Information Ministry on Sunday expressed the President’s commitment to continue to support the security agencies to fight crime and ensure that every Ghanaian is safe at all times.

The President said the successful re-arrest of Kombian attests to what effective collaboration between nations in an environment underpinned by shared information and mutual trust can produce.

He commended the National Security Apparatus for the effective co-ordination and collaboration that led to the arrest in Togo.

The statement revealed that two Togolese fugitives, Suabe Jamong and Dafalian Durk, who killed a Togolese military officer after robbing a Benz bus and escaped into Ghana, were arrested in Ghana and extradited to Togo on October 4.

President Mills reminded the security agencies of his earlier directive to them to step up their efforts in combating the menace of violent crime and ensure that criminals are ruthlessly dealt with.

He also warned that Prison officials who allowed convicted criminals to escape would not be spared and urged them to maintain a high sense of discipline and professionalism.

The President appealed to all Ghanaians to assist in the fight against crime, noting that fighting the menace is a shared responsibility.

He asked the citizenry to be vigilant and volunteer information about suspicious elements in the society.

The statement said Government would continue to provide the security agencies with all the support including logistics and capacity building.
