President J.E.A. Mills at Agbogbloshie

President John Evans Atta Mills on Friday visited the Agbogbloshie Market in Accra and sympathized with the traders over their losses in the fire disaster on Thursday night.

The President, who was traveling to Tamale for the funeral of Alhaji Sumani Zakari, the Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress, made a detour to the market that was gutted by fire on Thursday.

The fire razed down stores that contained jewellery, beads and cosmetic, among other goods.

Fire officers say they are investigating the cause of the fire. President Mills expressed the government’s sympathy over the unfortunate incident and assured the traders of government assistance.

At the time the Ghana News Agency (GNA) was leaving the scene, a number of people were seen rummaging the debris and rubble in search of what they could find.
