Government urged to channel District Assemblies common fund through rural banks

Major Ben Donkoh (Rtd), the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Agona Rural Bank, has suggested to the government to deposit the District Assemblies Common Fund with rural banks instead of commercial banks.

He said the situation where the funds were deposited only with the big banks was contravening the idea of instituting the fund, saying it was established to develop rural areas and not cities.

Major Donkoh made the suggestion when he addressed the 24th Annual General Meeting of the bank at Kwanyako in the Agona East District.

He appealed to the government to reconsider its decision about the management of the fund, adding that the rural banks were closer to the District and Municipal Assemblies than the big banks.

Mr John Ofori Jnr, General Manager of the Agona Rural Bank, said six branches of the bank had been networked to enable customers to cash their money at any of the branches.

He appealed to shareholders to buy more shares to increase its share capital.
