Exclusive: Zain Ghana to become Mobinet Ghana

Zain Ghana, will be renamed Mobinet Ghana, ghanabusinessnews.com can reveal.

A source knowledgeable about the name change has told ghanabusinessnews.com that the renaming ceremony will be held on Monday November 22, 2010.

Meanwhile an invitation by text message has been sent to ghanabusinessnews.com from a UK phone number announcing the renaming ceremony at the State House in Accra.

Zain Ghana, which is one of Ghana’s five active mobile phone companies was recently bought by Bharti Airtel of India, which is set to rebrand and rel-aunch the company focusing on internet services.

Bharti’s Chief Executive Officer and Joint Managing Director, Mr. Manoj Kohli has been cited elsewhere as saying that there was no DSL (digital subscriber line) in Africa, so wireless broadband was very important in Africa.

He said Bharti will focus attention on giving great broadband experience to the youth of Africa.

“We have 3G licenses in nine markets out of 16 and we will definitely fully utilize the 3G services,” he said.
