Fetteh youth protest against chieftaincy dispute

The Concerned Youth Association of Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region at the weekend undertook a peaceful demonstration to register their displeasure against the protracted chieftaincy dispute in the town.

According to the youth, the dispute had affected the development of the town and also created enmity among the people.

In a petition read after the demonstration, and signed by Mr Rockson Okyere and Mr Alex Agyah Afful, chairman and secretary, respectively, of the Association, they appealed to the Chieftaincy Secretariat and those in authority to help resolve the dispute lastingly.

“As youth, the future of the community belongs to us, therefore we will not sit aloof for our elders and leaders to destroy the future of our community for us, hence our demonstration and the petition to the government”.

The youth said there is little or no development going on in the community, adding that, there is a lot of lawlessness and disrespect among the elders and the youth because of the dispute.

They complained about indiscriminate and illegal sale of land by individuals with access to them, adding that, even foreigners are taking advantage of the situation to take their lands because of the lack of leadership.

According to them, none of the core litigants is staying in the community so they do not feel the harmful effects of the dispute.

Copies of the petition were sent to the Chieftaincy Secretariat, Inspector General of Police, (IGP) Central Regional Minister and the Central Regional House of Chiefs.

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, Mr Ekow Panyin Okyere, addressing the youth, urged them to exercise restraint while their petition is forwarded to the authorities.
