Kotoko loses 2-3 to Faisal

King Faisal Babies managed to earn a 3-2 victory over Kumasi Asante Kotoko in their Glo Premier League match played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday.

Faisal scored first in the 10th minute through George Ekow Annan in a defensive blunder by goalie Isaac Amoako, who was caught pants down.

Kotoko accepted the challenge and worked together and had the opportunity to equalize but Alex Asamoah’s header in the 37th minute was ruled offside against the run of play.

Determined to carry the day, Faisal made it 2-0 in the 39th minute through Abdul Wahab in a counter attack while Daniel Nii Adjei’s shot wide when he came face to face with goalkeeper, Ibrahim Iddrisu a minute later.

Samuel Adade scored the third goal for Faisal in the 45th minute and with a minute added on Alex Asamoah redeemed a goal for Kotoko to end the half.

Both teams resumed the second session stronger and with their pride at stake, Coach Ebo Mends, made two quick changes with Ofosu Appiah and Ekow Benson replacing, John Kuffour and Regan Obeng in the 50th and 53rd minutes respectively.

With things still difficult for Kotoko, Samad Oppong took over from Stephen Oduro in the 66th minute and this paid off for Kotoko as they launched total onslaught on the Faisal.

In one of their forays, Alex Asamoah’s shot in a goalmouth scramble sailed over the bar in the 72nd minute.

Kotoko, from there on, laid siege with either the Faisal goalkeeper lying on the turf or a player showing signs of injury thus bringing the game to a temporary hold.
